While I'm personally not a big fan of watching sports, being able to cover them as a journalist is a unique experience. Not only am I able to highlight the game but show each player's achievements and dedication they have to their sport. What I've noticed through the coverage I've done is the appreciation from both the players and coaches when I show up to report. For me, I'm reminded of how important my job as a journalist is. Girls Soccer uses Unexpected Setback to their Advantage

Originally, I went to the girls JV soccer game to take photos for yearbook, however, while I was there the team found out that their game was cancelled. Instead of calling it a day, both the coaches and players agreed on participating in a scrimmage with the C-Team, who had no prior game experience. Seeing this decision in real time, I decided to write an article about their dedication to helping themselves and others improve.

Building Bonds and Taking Wins with the Girls Varsity Soccer Team

After watching the girls' varsity soccer team continuously succeed and not many people within the school talk about it, I decided to write an article highlighting them. While taking photos at the game, I was able to see the trust they had in one another, playing strong as a team. During the interviews, I listened as each player talked up their teammates, expressing confidence in the team as a whole.

When this article was printed in our Volume 3 Issue 1 magazine, one of the soccer coaches ripped out the page and hung it up in his classroom. It's always the best feeling when people show their appreciation for the writing I do.

Girls Varsity Volleyball Serves Mount Tahoma High School a Quick Loss

Game coverage is one type of journalism writing that I'm not the strongest at, so, I thought it would be a good idea to challenge myself and coverage the girls' varsity volleyball match. With a good understanding of the sport after attending multiple games to take photos for yearbook, I felt pretty confident. The hardest thing about game coverage is the multitasking, as not only do you have to take photos but also keep track of who scored and when.

Even with little experience in this writing style, I was able to turn the story around in a day while still feeling good about it. This challenge taught me the important skill of writing quick but good, and I can confidently say that game coverage will be something I do more often.
