VIDEO STORIES

When one of the SNO requirements had us creating video stories, I took a step out of my comfort zone and was the first person in our publication to create a news video story. After realizing videography is something I enjoy doing, I have been challenging myself to do more of it.

CKHS HOSA Club Prepares Staff and Students for Future Emergencies

I decided to pick up this video story after another staffer wasn't able to complete theirs, as this was one of the last things we needed to get the Distinguished Site Award. The struggle with this story was the planning, as I tackled it the same day it was happening. However, I was still able to get all the clips I needed to create my video.

What I loved most about this story was getting to hear all the different things the HOSA club does, as the members involved are very determined to help and educate the students within our school.

Students Showcase Creativity Through Annual Variety Show

This team video story was put together by four staffers, including myself. Because it was an event, we only had one shot to get all the footage we needed, so, two people recorded the performances while the other two interviewed performers before they went on stage. Once we had our footage, we realized editing would be an issue since four people can't be on a computer at the same time.

While editing started out balanced, things shifted once we got moving, which pushed me and another staffer out of the picture. Even though the video turned out great, we all agreed there should be two staffers max working on the same video story.

New Advisory Change Perpetuates Freedom Throughout CKHS

For the longest time, students had to get passes to attend an advisory they weren't assigned to, which cut down the amount of work time students got during their 30-minute free period. This was until last year, where a few teachers decided to model a system used at another high school, where students sign into the advisory of their choice. While this could have been written, I decided to try something new and turn the story into a video.

I watched a bunch of news video stories from other student publications, so I felt pretty confident and excited to tackle this project. Once I had all my film together, I took some time to learn Adobe Premiere Pro, where I then put everything together. This video made me I realized that videography is something I enjoy doing, and ever since then I have been finding more ways I can improve my skills.
